ll be here for you, too.”
“Good boy.”

“And if you’re a little scared, I’m happy to oblige you.”
“Good.”
“Don’t worry,” Fred said, “I can’t make you mad. I’m just glad to see you.”
“Don’t worry,” Fred said. “It’s just like you to me.”
“I’m never mad,” Fred said. “Never. And if you’re not mad, that’s what’s so funny.”
“And if you’re not mad, how can you be the one who thinks you’re crazy?”
Fred’s eyes glinted. “I suppose I’m still a nut.”
Jason’s eyes glinted. “You’re not,” Jason said. “How long have you been waiting to come home?”
Fred didn’t understand. He had seen Jason in a dream, and the dream had made him think of a lot of things. He had felt like he had been dreaming his whole life. It had made him think of everything he had heard, everything he had read, and everything that had happened since. He had also felt a great sense of longing. He had lost so much in his life-the lost friends, the lost love. It had put everything else in a different light.
Jason’s eyes glinted. “Did you miss your friends?”
Fred nodded. “I think I did.”
Jason looked at his watch. “You didn’t.”
Fred shrugged. “I don’t know. I guess I did.”
